The overall look of an aquarium is mostly pleasing to the fish owner‘s eyes. I speak from personal experience. The very first aquarium I had for my little goldfish was round, but well, just round. There was nothing fancy about it.
At that time there weren’t may different models of aquariums available and my goldfish was happy enough with his small aquarium. He entertained himself by producing bubbles and then chasing them all over his little fish tank.

One day – I was about 15 years old – I got the crazy idea that I wanted to create a totally natural environment for my little goldfish, so he would have although living alone a vibrant world to live in. Well, I went to a nearby creek and pulled some nice looking plants out of the water. Back home I just dug them into the pebbles in the aquarium and was happy. My goldfish’s first reaction was shock, then he checked the plants out. Did I mention that curiosity was my goldfish’s middle name?
Well, what I didn’t know was, that with my live plants I also brought some minuscule snails that began almost immediately to climb the aquarium sides – and guess what! They started to eat off the algae from the aquarium sides. That was a hit! I didn’t know at that time that there are algae eating snails. The only downside was that my goldfish got a taste of these snails and loved to picked them off the aquarium sides and to eat them with relish. My new question was then: who is faster? The snails eating the algae or my goldfish eating the snails?
Why do you need a light fixture for your aquarium or fish tank? Well, the answer is easy. With an aquarium light you can see and observe your aquarium pets and plants better. Just kidding, or not really. Of course an aquarium light facilitates your daily observation because that’s why you chose an aquarium in the first place. It is just fun to watch the fish and water plants.
The other very important reason why you should have an aquarium light fixture is that the lighting provides vital energy to plants and animals and is essential for an aquarium containing photosynthetic organisms such as plants or anemones. You will see that your fish behavior and physiology is influenced by the lighting. An aquarium light is therefore important for health and well-being of the whole aquarium.
Once you have your aquarium, for fish or turtles, you’ll want to have an aquarium filter. What is the basic function of an aquarium filter? Well, it cleans the water of debris, removes the toxic buildup of ammonia and nitrates. Additionally it aerates the water, important for the animals living in the aquarium.
Having an aquarium filter makes your life as fish owner and the life of your fish easier. It doesn’t mean of course that you can lean back and relax. You still need to maintain the filter depending on what kind filter media you have. Even with this regular maintenance of the filter the fish remain one of the lowest maintenance requiring pets.
I still remember the first time a friend’s son gave the first present to his two beloved guinea pigs. It was Christmas, and the boy decided that his little friends should also get a gift. So cute! Well, he actually kept this great idea until both guinea pigs died, and he moved on to having a dog.
Giving your pet a present might sound awkward to you, but it is really fun – for you and your pet. With guinea pigs it’s easy indeed because you can give them something they don’t get on a regular basis.

I grew up having a single goldfish that lived his first years in a tiny round fish tank until we got him – I actually found out very late that he was male – a bigger fish tank. And with the bigger fish tank, well, of course the fish tank accessories suddenly got interesting.
From my experience I can say that first I thought fish tank accessories are mainly made for human entertainment or aesthetic needs. But while this might be true – hopefully is – the fish is enjoying them equally if not even more. My little goldfish became so playful after we added several different fish tank accessories. It definitely worked!
