One day we received a Persian Cat in our vet’s office. She looked piteous. Her normally beautiful fur has become totally matted – over her whole body. Her owner was heartbroken, didn’t know what to do.
Well, she didn’t know that she’d have needed to brush her cat’s fur regularly with a good cat brush in order to prevent matted fur.
How do you keep your cat’s fur healthy and beautiful? I have some tips for you.
We urged the owner to get a cat brush and gave her tips how to brush her cat. For her cat though this information came too late. The owner had to leave the cat with us. We shaved the whole cat’s body. Only some hair remained around her ears and face. You can imagine the shocked face of her owner when she came to get her cat back. Her seemingly big Persian cat turned out to be a tiny skinny cat with big eyes.
Generally said, cats with long fur need to be brushed more often than cats with short fur. Persian cats and similar cat breeds need to be brushed on a daily basis. Short hair cats on the other hand need to be brushed on a weekly basis. Don’t use combs meant for people. There are great pet grooming brushes available.
Try to get your cat used to be brushed in an early age. It makes all grooming activities fun for both of you. If you forget to brush your long haired cat for a longer period of time, never try to cut mats off with scissors. The only way to get rid of mats is to shave your cat. And you have to get rid of the mats, they don’t just look ugly, they are painful for the cat.
With your brushing you will reduce shedding to some extent and you help your cat to keep clean by removing possible dirt. Regular brushing will also help bond with each other. Most probably you will see that your cat enjoys being brushed.
How to brush your cat? First find a comfortable position indoors or outdoors and start with petting your cat. When you both are comfortable start brushing your cat’s fur with long soft slow strokes. Every so often clean your brush with a comb. You can use this little break by giving your cat a little treat as reward.
Always make sure that your cat feels comfortable, never force brushing on your cat and never brush her where she doesn’t want to be brushed. Many cats are sensitive around their bellies.
If your cat is resisting any brushing, let her get familiar with the brush, let her play with it. Some cats may be so playful that you will need to get two brushes, one as toy for your cat and the other one for you. If you see some mat getting started, first try to separate the tangle into smaller pieces. The earlier you discover it the better.

A very good product for both cats and dogs. I was worried about it being to rough on my cats but I was worried for no reason. Very good quality built product. The product is very week built, easy to assemble and disassemble and cleans up so easy. Removes hair without any reaction from my cats… Good job on a great product.
My two dogs and cat love getting brushed with this! My English Bulldog even rolls on to her back to get her chest and tummy brushed.

This is a great shedding brush for your cats and dogs. I have owned a few, however, my last one has grown legs and is no longer to be found. Easy to assemble. Just pop the blade-comb into the handle and you are ready to use. (Also has a plastic blade-comb protector for when it is not in use.) Light weight and feels good in the hand while using. Easy to clean. Last but most important, it is very effective, my cat loves it and it is so easy my 8 year old can use it!
I recently became a cat owner, which looks like a type of forest cat with its rather large paws and long, thick coat. I am very glad I bought the Chirpy brush for my cat. I am finding the chirpy brush is helping significantly with reducing the shedding, the issue of loose hairs, and also what looks like tufts of cat hair tumbleweed. Fortunately, my cat enjoys being brushed so I am able to use the Chirpy brush on her coat easily.
Bought it primarily for my long-haired Maine Coon since he began shedding early this season. I pulled more dead fur off of him in 5 minutes with the Chirpy Pets brush than I normally pull off in one week. It works good on the short hair cats, but I just don’t have to use it as often. The medium hair cats have benefited from the Chirpy Pets brush, as I saw a big improvement on them as well.
